This active 8-day tour has everything: the world’s greatest savannahs, its largest volcanic crater, and Africa’s most immense lake. And filling these iconic landscapes, every conceivable form of wildlife – from big cats to elephants to wildebeests and colorful birdlife.
Both Kenya and Tanzania boast world-class parks and almost seem to outdo each other with their active displays of animals, natural wonders, and cultural touch points.
We’ll begin our safari at the world-famous Masai Mara Reserve in Kenya, home to lions, leopards, cheetah, and thousands of herding wildebeests and zebra. Then we’ll switch gears, crossing into Tanzania, to explore the immense blue shores of Lake Victoria, Africa’s signature body of water.
The massive plains of the Serengeti beckon and we’ll swing back into intense game viewing mode, moving over this vast sweep of lion country. We’ll also explore Olduvai Gorge, the most intact site of prehistoric man. Then onto the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, with its densely concentrated world of wildlife and finally finish up, tracking for lions, elephants, and zebra at Tanzania’s Tarangire Park.

Across the Mara River and the border with Tanzania, the great Serengeti is the breeding ground for uncountable grazers – herding, calving, and filling the vast plains with the awesome spectacle of their numbers.
To say the Ngorongoro Crater is unique would be an understatement – it’s the largest intact volcanic crater in the world. But even more impressive is the varied and dense population of wildlife filling this blue/green expanse. Every manner of wildlife makes this region its home, from lions to flamingoes!
Our safari wraps up at pretty Tarangire Park where you’ll find lots of elephants and other big game – the perfect finish to this very complete Africa, two-country safari vacation

7:30 am: Say ‘Hi’ to your new best friend, your Kafu Safaris driver/guide who will swing by in a 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep to pick you up for your safari adventure. Your guide will share his vast experience and knowledge of the wildlife and parks with you.
We’ll take off heading south through Kenya’s central highlands, viewing passing homesteads and small communities. Driving through the Rift Valley escarpment, we’ll make stops to rest and view the scenic wonders of the great valley.
Arriving at the Masai Mara National Reserve, we’ll freshen up at our accommodation and enjoy a hearty lunch.
Then, it’s safari time – you’ll head out on our first of many game drives over the next eight days. Enjoy the pretty vistas of the park’s rolling hills and soon make your first animal sightings.
Toward late afternoon we’ll head back to your Masai Mara safari lodge or tented camp for dPrevious
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Welcome to your first full day of game drives! The Masai Mara offers an unending choice of environments to explore. Known for its many prides of lions and other big cats, your guide will be tracking for them along with elephants, buffalo, rhinos, and every sort of wildlife.
We’ll bring a picnic lunch to enjoy down at the Mara River, site of the Great Migration of wildebeests and zebras… sometimes by the thousands.
You may want to take advantage of several optional extras we offer to enhance your safari experience. For a change of pace and a deeply cultural moment, we recommend a visit to the local Maasai village. Here you’ll meet these indigenous people, learn about their way of living and perhaps partake in a dancing ceremony.
For an unforgettable safari moment, sign up for an optional hot air balloon safari over the park. You’ll rise with the sun as the park comes alive below… simply magnificent!
We’ll spend our second safari evening at our Mara lodge or camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Let’s see as much of the Masai Mara as possible with an early morning game drive. Then, we’ll head for Tanzania, crossing over at the border town of Isebania.
Here, we’ll switch our vehicle and meet our new Tanzania driver/guide.
Lake Victoria is our next stop and we’ll arrive in the late afternoon, freshening up at our lodge.
We’ll have time to explore the lake’s environment and perhaps visit the nearby Bunda Market.
Dinner and rest tonight at our Lake Victoria accommodation.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning we’ll explore Lake Victoria’s environs, visit a fishing village, and take a guided tour. This cultural moment will introduce us to the area’s traditional lifestyle, including fishing techniques and marketing the local wares.
Now, we’re off to the nearby Serengeti Park, another massive ecosystem, holding great numbers of wildlife.
We’ll arrive in time for an afternoon game drive and you’ll get your first taste of this world-famous reserve.
Settling into our Serengeti lodge or tented camp we’ll make plans for tomorrow’s full day at the park.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Ready for some massive game viewing? We have a full day of game drives planned for you over these vast and busy plains.
But the choice is always yours as to how busy you wish to be. You can choose to explore the Serengeti for the entire day or go for morning or just afternoon safaris. Just discuss with your guide what you’d like to do.
The park is known for its over 3,000 lions plus uncountable wildebeests and zebra. But you’ll also find cheetah, zebra, giraffe, gazelle, eland, impala, klipspringer, warthog, and near its lakes… hippos.
After a busy day, you’ll want to kick back and relax at your Serengeti accommodation.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today we will descend into the largest volcanic crater in the world. But first, let’s enjoy one more game drive through the Serengeti as we exit the park.
Arriving at the Ngorongoro Crater, you’ll see stretched out before you a magical world of color and wildlife. We’ll drive down the crater wall to the floor of this unique ecosystem.
Here, we’ll be tracking for rhino, elephant, buffalo, hippo, and of course cheetah and lions. The wildlife is dense in this self-contained universe, cut off from the rest of the world.
We’ll have lunch at one of many scenic viewing spots and continue with afternoon game drives.
Then, another special treat awaits: Toward late afternoon we’ll ascend back up the caldera wall and catch a spectacular African sunset at the crater’s rim!
The fading light will bring us to our Ngorongoro accommodation for the evening.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
If we’re up early enough, we can take in a gorgeous sunrise at the crater’s rim. What a great way to begin the day before we head to Tarangire Park.
This small but lovely park will treat us to a wonderful variety of game, especially lots of elephants.
The park is also home to its own small migration, offering safari-goers a unique treat.
We’ll spend our final safari evening at our Tarangire lodge or tented camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Let’s take one more morning game drive before we complete our safari.
If you’re returning to Nairobi, we’ll cross back into Kenya at Namanga and arrive at the capital city in the early evening.
Should you choose to wrap up in Arusha, we’ll bring you to Kilimanjaro Airport.
Not too many can say they’ve been to Kenya and Tanzania and have seen the Masai Mara and the Serengeti. But you’ve got the photos, stories, and memories to prove it. All of us at Kafu Safaris loved showing you the lands and wildlife of East Africa and we thank you for your deep interest in this, our natural World
